Dixie Wildwood, Chapter 1

Forest.jpg

tommy.gif“Jeeah, jay queedle.  Jeeah, jay queedle!”  “Dog in the forest.   Dog in the forest!”  The other blue jays understood the news report exactly.  A skunk, four mice, and the crows on watch got the basic idea.  Even Dakota, the subject of the commotion who lives nearby with a crazy woman, knew he’d been spotted.  He didn’t care.

There was so much to learn from the fascinating story smells that were everywhere along his route.  He raised his leg and added his own narrative to the pathway.

Tommy, the sentinel jay tilted his head and flexed his legs preparing to move to a higher perch and continue his lookout.

“Dakota! Com’ere, boy. Time for your bath…”

That crazy woman sure had a strange call thought all the animals.  Dakota only understood tone and a few choice words like “dinner, ride, and bath.“  The latter being a bad word.  He crouched low.  Running off leash was as good as it got and he didn’t want to go back especially for a scrubbing in the water that smelled (and tasted) funny.

“Dakota…!”

It was no use.  He would choose the woman and go back.  She produced all that great food and then there was the scratching and petting that made his back leg pump with pleasure.  He loved her and went along with the baths.

…TBC
