This illo for a report cover was commissioned but then “not used.” It was still fun to do. The recent United Nations Conference in Copenhagen ended on a somewhat optimistic note when the five countries above – dubbed the Copenhagen 5, or C5 – agreed to a warming goal of 2 degrees Centigrade. The Europeans did not participate, but supported the accord. These issues have more traction outside the US. Here we care more about our individual prosperity. Sigh…
We are running out of time to change human development practices so there can be natural resources left for our grandchildren. New policies are hard to come by, so don’t expect too much from politicians. I believe people will change when they know the facts and understand the consequences of their behavior, or inaction.
IMO, WW2WWW (wonks writing to wonks won’t work) but creative communications that weave messages into memorable stories (like WALL-E and Avatar) can inspire new ideas and eventual change.
That’s it from chilly Asheville. Dixie Wildwood will continue soon…
